No story here, just a funny picture of him sleeping. And yes, this is a normal (non-swaddled) sleeping position.

Magic Number
Reds magic number is 3. It's been over 10 years since espn has scrolled that information. It literally brings a tear to my eye each time I see it. As a life long Cincinnati fan, I know nothing is guaranteed (except 3 win seasons by the bengals), but I'm still giddy.

Happy Birthday!
Thursday was Evan's one month birthday. No presents or cake, but we did take some pictures of him dressed up in a fancy outfit which explained his age. He was so happy he drooled...and then screamed...and then pooped.
Some Pics
I've been told by several people that the Popeye's belly picture was not the favorite I thought it would be. Although I'm sure Lurker Alley appreciates that picture, I am told more pictures of Evan are needed on this blog. The people have spoken, so here you go...a few pics from this week and our first adventure with a new fancy camera.
A little update...the little man is already changing so much. It's crazy to watch him smile for the first time (it's quick, but it's a real smile, not just gas), start drooling, and start making all kinds of new noises. We'll post some videos in the days coming up, but to start...here are some pics:

He's not sure what to do yet during "tummy time"
Tummy time mostly consists of him kicking his legs around like he's swimming.
Falls down a well, eyes go cross. Gets kicked by a mule. They go back. I don't know.
After a full meal...shirt undone and drooling. The good life.
The now famous "arms up". No matter what activity, he has at least one spring loaded arm above his head.

KFC is for the Weak
There was no time to make dinner tonight. I ran a late errand and Evan was up screaming all afternoon (nothing new there). We decided to try a little something different for dinner...the one and only Popeye's Chicken. I don't do things small, so I brought home the 8 piece family meal with 4 biscuits and a large side of Mac 'n Cheese. My initial thinking was that we'll have some leftovers for lunch tomorrow. No chance. The leftovers consisted of one biscuit.
Dear Meatsweats...I look forward to your arrival late tonight.

First Visitors
Jen's parents were in town last week to meet Evan and help us out after getting home from the hospital. It was great having them here. Her mom flew in right after Evan was born and was incredibly helpful with taking over laundry, making dinners, and coming out of the bullpen to relieve Jen and I in the middle of the night. A few days later, Jen's dad flew into town. He was a champ...within ten minutes of arriving at our house, he was already cleaning spit up off the floor (it was nasty) and making CVS runs for random purchases.
It was obvious Evan enjoyed having his Grammy and Grandpa in town during his first week. I know his parents were very thankful.

Go Bucks!
He's ready for the OSU v. Miami game. And by the looks of those cheeks...he's also ready for another bottle.
Touchdown Evan!
Although Evan acts like he doesn't like the swaddle, he won't sleep without it. When we wake him up, his immediate response is to throw the arms up in the air like he's been freed from his strait jacket. It's like clockwork.

Swingin'
Evan likes to scream. Loud. On Monday (which of course was a day off for the holiday) he decided to start screaming around 11 am. He was so frantic all day that he wouldn't sleep and he barely ate anything. I busted out all 5 S's to no avail. Evan decided this round was going to him.
Enter Michelle. Around 9 o'clock at night, our good friend Michelle came over (by herself, via cab) lugging the largest swing ever known to man. She calmly ignored his wailing, rolled up her sleeves, and got to work putting it together for us. We were a little skeptical given the lowest speed was equivalent to warp speed, but after 9+ hours of crying...we were willing to try anything. The result...Evan passed out in the swing for over 5 hours of sleep. It's the little victories that are important now. Michelle, they should write songs about you.

Happy Birthday (Belated)
Happy belated first birthday to our nephew Mitchell. After only one year, he's rocking the skullet like he was born for that purpose alone. He probably didn't notice the fact that we forgot to call or mail a card, but that's no excuse for us. Hope you had a good one buddy, and your sisters left you alone long enough to destroy some birthday cake.

First Trip
Evan's first trip outside of the house was a success. Given his dramatic entrance into the world, the pediatrician wanted to see him ASAP after we got home. Monday afternoon we packed up the diaper bag, took a few calming deep breaths, and used the car seat for the first time. Evan wasn't super excited at first and treated us to his super red "hot face". Usually we're not sure if this face means he's about to cry or about to poop. In this case, it was the former. After some readjustments and rigging some towels to keep his head in place, the Martins hit the road. A clean bill of health and only a few minutes of crying on the way home equaled an incredibly successful first trip.

Hiccups
This boy can down some grub. He's like Kobayashi with the bottle and insists on taking it down in world record time. Here are the results of those eating habits.
